MPS V2.x is coming along very well. As I mentioned in a previous post this newer version has been pretty much a complete rewrite of the entire codebase. I have also updated the database structure to better intigrate with the new codebase.
I have reduced the number of core modules that will come as part of the standard install. This has been done to enure that the system gets up and running as quickly as possible.
The core module comprise of the following:
Home - This module displays only news that has been categorised as featured.
News - The News Module is category based, offering Categories and Sub-Categories in which you may post news items. There is also a file upload manager and dynamic wysiwyg interace to ensure any coding that is added in the news section renders properly.
Repository - The Repository (currently being developed will be a master store of every type of content that is stored in the system. The plan is for this to be search able in order to quickly find content that is needed to be inserted into a news item, or any other core module or plugin module in any part of the site.
Members - The Members section allows member signups and account detail modification along with profile setups and othere features. This module will eventually be split up into two core modules, Members and Profiles, however for the time being, there is only one module that contains all features. This wil change in the next incremental update.
Administration - The Administration section will be completely rewritten from the ground up. Features will be detailed at a later date.
About - This page is very basis, it allows for the creation of content for the About page.
Contact - This module will be written again from scratch, it will be prett basic in the first instance but will allow for a couple of common features that are required for a standard contact page.
So, that is about it for this update, I will be posing more information as I progress in the development of MPS.
I have been quite busy working on a new version of the Majickal Portal System
The latest version is running off a new code base, version 1.1 and has also had a complete database overhaul.
Since this has pretty much been a complete rewrite of the whole codebase, it has taken some time for me to get things back to a point i am satisfied with. I feel as though i am really making some solid progress now.
The latest version of MPS is runniong on Bandwidth Media and also runs a couple of other sites that i will be taking about in a later post.
The news system has had a massive update and now there is a file upload system and a load of other goodies. As always there is still room for improvement, however i am pleased with the progress thus far. I am really looking forward to finishing the news system asap so i can launch the new version of the system as a service to clients.
Right now my main priority is getting the members section revamped and ready to tackle what i hope will be a fairly high traffic site. The new version is far more functional and looks a whole heap better than previous versions. There will also be a self help component to the members section allowing for the usual suspects such as retrieve password, reset password and forgot login name.
Leading on from the members section will be the profile section, this is going to be a very important part of the system as it will allow members to display information about themselves to others should they wish.
Whilst there are other core modules and plugins in the works, that is all i have time to talk about now and besides, i need to get the latest updates to the members section done before i even consider moving on other aspects of the system.
So that is about it for now, as i make progress i will update this site with any info that comes to hand.
MPS version 2.0 database is currently being built from the ground up. I am starting to see areas of this current build that while suited what oi was trying to achieve at the time, are somewhat lacking in the broader context of what i a, trying to achieve with MPS.
I will be able to reuse most of the code from this version of MPS and will also continue to keep this site upto date whilst i am still developing the updated version of MPS. I think that i will keep the version revision a minor increment on what it currently is though: perhaps version 1.0.1.0, not that it really matters anyhow.
